Let me start off by tipping my hat off to the designer. Perfect design that amazingly replicates its movie counterpart. 8 to 12 year olds should have no problem building this, as it has an easy flowing building process with only 4 tiny stickers to place. Plenty of colored and unique parts in this set, such as all the dishes that pose as the windows and hatch for the Tie Fighter. From the outside, the SF/Tie fighter has a pleasing design that leaves you satisfied after the build. The interior however, is a bit plain with only 2 gray battle droid bodies acting as the controls for The Fighter. Also, the two flat tile pieces you sit your pilots on don't effectively secure them, as they will shift around if you decide to pick the Tie Fighter up and fly it around; just an FYI. I feel different parts could have been used to secure the pilots, but I'm just nitpicky. Most people won't mind its current design.Like I said before, the exterior is amazing and solidly built, but the only pieces that rattle a bit (not affecting the structural integrity of the Tie Fighter) are the black pieces that outline the wings. The Nature of the design allows them to slightly move freely, creating that tiny rattle. For someone like me who pays attention to detail, this somewhat bugs me but can otherwise be ignored easily.3 of the 4 minifigs are exclusive to this set which leads me to believe why the original price is $70 USD. The two Tie Fighter pilots have remarkable detail I've never seen on a lego minifig before. The pilot's breathing apparatus is actually molded onto the helmet itself, sticking out unlike previous Imperial Tie Pilots which had it printed on the torso. This alone makes these two minifigs very special, likely to become sought after minifigs by collector's in the future. Next we have an officer with a unique colored head and hat design, perfect for a General Hux speech reenactment. The last fig is a standard First Order crew member which can easily be obtain through The Force Awakens Battle Packs.Final thoughts: Although this set is a bit pricey for the piece count and overall size of the Tie Fighter, it does make for a fun and great set for any kid or adult looking to display and play with it. Personally, I wouldn't buy it again, let alone for $70 USD simply because of the price point. If they drop the price down to $40 or maybe even $50, I would consider buying it again. Please don't get me wrong, I actually love this set and would recommend it to anyone that has the money to spend on expensive Lego set. For the parents purchasing for their child? I wouldn't doubt the price would put them off since the overall value for money seems low. That said, this Lego Tie Fighter matches perfectly for the type of consumer that I am. A wonderful set that deserves my 5 stars.
